The recent RE/MAX report found out that Generation X became the most important buying force on the Canadian market with recreational property, replacing the aging baby boomer generation.

Who are the people in Generation X?

As you may have noticed, generations of the 20th century have been given fancy names by social scientists.  It were the different political and cultural attributes of the period when a certain generation was brought up that influenced its members and gave the generation a name.  While baby boomers (those born in the period of mid 40’s late 50’s) were the most active buying force until just a couple of years ago, most of them have entered or are just about to enter retirement. 

Now the children of baby boomers (named as Generation X) have grown up and in their 30 – 40′s they are in a sufficient financial condition to purchase recreational property at almost any price.
The change is especially noticeable when you confront the first half of 2009 results to the 2008 results.  Waterfront cottages, resort condos and all other kinds of recreational property products are now very popular among thirty-something buyers. This has been reported by 74 percent of markets surveyed this year.  This compares with only 40 percent in 2008.  From January till April 2009, the number of sold recreational properties decreased – at least two thirds of all surveyed markets showed such trend.  But now, since the start of the new cottage season, many major centers are now reporting an intensive buyer activity.

The most important points of the report:

Most markets report reasonable supply, but in 18 percent of the markets the inventory levels for entry-level products are tight, as most of the activity was targeted in the lower-end.  Younger buyers with families are now purchasing properties from older cottage owners, who in many cases own their properties outright.  Numerous cottages in Canada are owned by Americans, who are presently taking advantage of the stronger dollar to cash out of the market.  There are some exceptions of course, but we can say that American purchasers have in most cases disappeared. One of the known factors in the marketplace is pent-up demand. For example some buyers who had intended to buy recreational properties in the second half of 2008 decided to defer the transaction till the next year. The warmer parts of USA, such as Florida, Arizona, California or Nevada – this is where some older Canadians still want to purchase secondary homes. Although the Generation X purchasers are prepared to pay their hard-earned dollars for recreational houses, they still want to be sure they’ve negotiated the best possible outcome.

I have been running the google adsense adverts on a number of my websites for around a year now. I have to admit that I am nowhere near the stage when I would be able to consider retiring on its income. Later that evening my wife asked if I would be willing to go to the shops to buy her some cigarettes. I was quite happy to go as I also needed to buy some for myself. When I arrived at the shop, I asked the shopkeeper for the forty cigarettes and he in return stated how much it would cost. This amount was more than the nine pounds I had made that day on adsense.

Even though I was well aware of how much a packet of cigarettes would cost, this still came as a bit of a shock to me. There I am working very hard in an attempt to increase my adsense earnings and then go about throwing what money I have made down the drain by smoking these fags.

This was enough to give me the inspiration to stop smoking, I am not trying to say it is easy but knowing that over a course of a year I am likely to save around a thousand pounds was a big help to me.

My wife has also been very determined and has managed to quit smoking. We now live in a much healthier environment and can now afford to have a holiday abroad each year.

Did you ever notice how most children seem to be fearless when it comes to crafts? Kids don’t wait until they are experts to plunge in and make fun and creatibve things just for the joy of it. For those, young or old, who might be a little shy about their ability, here are a few simple and easy to create Easter items to build confidence.

– Eggshell Shells

Most people are familiar with coloring Easter eggs. But eggshells also make great material for a wide range of craft items. Hard boil a few eggs, then color one each in a primary color or make rainbow patterns. Allow to dry, then break off the shell in chunks. You could use raw eggs, but hard boiling them saves the trouble of cleaning, drying or sterilizing.

Now you’ve got a large pile of colored eggshell pieces. What to do? Try using a spray adhesive and glue the pieces to a wicker basket. Now something plain has been turned into a rainbow of color! Or, you could apply them to a small piece of cloth cut in the shape of a vest for a doll. Apply the colored pieces to simulate miniature football shoulder pads. Or make tiny colorful shoes or a little hat for a bunny doll.

– Paper Plate Easter Bunny

Paper plates are another handy everyday item that can be used for simple Easter craft projects. Here’s an ultra-easy way to use them to make a cute little Easter bunny.

Take one paper plate and fold it in half then release. Along the fold, cut about 1/3 in toward the center from each side, leaving 1/3 in the middle uncut. Now you can fold about a quarter of the paper plate down on each side, so the craft will stand up on its own. Paint or draw a pink nose and tiny black eyes onto the middle of the section.

Now take another paper plate lying flat on the table and glue the rim to it. Use still another plate to cut out some bunny rabbit ear shapes. Color the interiors pink with crayon, colored marker or hobby paint. Leave the border white, like real rabbit’s ears. Attach the ears to the standing section made earlier by sliding them into the slits made by your cuts and glue them into place.

Now you’ve got a bunny rabbit who is sticking his head up out of his teeny rabbit hole to take a look around!

– Easter Bunny Doll

Easter bunny dolls are simple and fun to make. Just take a few stips of felt and some stuffing and you can create a cute looking stuffed toy. Make sure the dog doesn’t get it, though!

Cut up some old rags and curl them into arms and legs. Or, curl them around cotton balls for extra fluffiness. You can tie the rags into place with small bits of colored thread. Tie the legs at the ankle, knee and upper thigh. Tie the arms at the wrist, elbow and just above and below the shoulder. That gives the limbs definition. Or try stuffing panty hose and tying it off to make legs and arms and cover it with scraps.

Now, repeat to make the body, neck and head, and don’t forget the ears. The limbs can easily be sewn onto the torso, or tied together by overlapping cloth parts and securing with thread. Then you can paint the face with hobby paint, or glue some colored eggshell bits on for the nose and eyes.
