Medical Transcription at Home
I’m looking into medical transcription at home because I have a 16 month old son and I take care of my 90 year old grandmother. I Feel that I need to make a better life for the both of the as well as myself and I think if I’m a work at home medical transcriptionist, I can still take care of the both of them. My son motivated me the most because I want to wake up every day and make sure that I’m his inspiration in his life. I would like to spend more time at home with the two people that mean the most to me and I know that my grandmother does not have that much time in this world. She is going to be 90 years old October 19th and she having heart surgery soon.
I think this is a great opportunity for me to start a career. I would like to pursue my career in the medical field so that I can help more people. My goals are to work with kids and in a hospital, and I would like to go back to school and get a degree. I’ve been wanting to pursue this for about a year but I been taking care of everyone else and now it’s time to take care of myself and make some money. Maybe I was not too serious, but I can remember that sensation of bursting in my veins and butterflies in my stomach every time I watched the Discovery Health Channel go to the operating room and display a medical procedure, a show that terrified my mother but intrigued and fascinated her little daughter.
As I grew up, my decision never changed. While my friends passed from wanting to be astronauts to veterinarians to police officers, I knew that I would never fit in any other occupation, and so not only them but my teachers noticed my determination and I became the most requested science tutor in my junior high. I want to contribute to the medical world by solving the mysteries of our brain. I also believe in what many people call the power of the mind. It is amazing how some people develop parts in their brain that enables them having especial qualities and abilities. SN:0MA9N2ESY
On the other side, apart from my research contribution to science, I want to be able to talk to my patients and be a humanitarian doctor; medicine should reach very single social level and economic level, to people of all the ethnicities and all languages. I believe in the healing power of laugh and of happiness. I would like to teach my patients live healthier and happier lives, and be able to teach them about their conditions and what science can do for them. I believe there is a connection between one’s mind and what I call our soul. If one can connect these two things and use them together for the sake of healing, miracles can happen I also want to know more about the human body and its intrinsic functions. Some people call me a dreamer, but I would say I am a person with clear goals. Am I too young to know what it really takes to be a doctor? No, it was clear for me since I was six years old.
Medical Transcription
I am 41 years old. I am married and a mother of 2 daughters, one 20 and one 14. My oldest daughter is in college in the Merchandising and Marketing field and my youngest daughter just started high school. I have lived in the Dallas area for over 20 years. I am interested in learning more about the medical transcription at home for 2 reasons. One of which has just become more evident to me. My older sister was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer 3 years ago. She has had her bladder and one of her kidneys removed. Since the surgeries she has become ill several times and has now been diagnosed with Characinoid Malignancy. Previous to my sister’s cancer diagnosis, my father passed away of Heart Disease and after that my grandmother of several different issues related to Heart Disease. I have just realized the lack of my knowledge around the terrible diseases we call Cancer and Heart Disease and would like to learn more about them.
I know that this field is very complex and would really enjoy the opportunity to learn through Transcription work, the details and explanations of different medical issues. I have always considered medical transcription jobs at home and would enjoy the opportunity now to pursue it due to its flexible in home work schedule. I will be providing care alternately with my mother for my sister during this very difficult time. It looks as though my sister will have to be transferred to MD Anderson in Houston for another round of tests and possible another surgery to remove the cancer that has just been diagnosed. This will be an overwhelming procedure for her again. Her family has to deal with the Cancer word all over again. I just feel like I have a handicap not knowing some of the basic things to ask and have done lots of research on the internet to learn about different types of cancers and heart disease. I just recently participated in the American Heart Association heart walk here in Dallas to raise funds for research in Heart Disease.SN:0MA9N2ESY
I know there are lots of strides being made every day in these areas of medicine and I fill like I could contribute to the education of everyday folks like myself if I had the training to learn some important information around these fields. I have presently been in the Administrative field for over 18 years and have just now realized that I need to learn more in the medical field for not only myself but for my immediate family as well. It would seem as though I have some medical issues in my family history and I would love to take this opportunity now to be proactive in learning all that there is to know and becoming a personal conduit for helping many others if they are ever finding themselves in the same situation that my sister and her family is in.
Medical Transcription is the Golden Key
I leave work every morning and kiss my little girl good-bye. She always asks “when will you be home mom?” I always tell her “right after work baby” and write down the time so she can look at the clock to check. Many of times she asks “mom can you stay home today?” She is four and half years old. She is the highlight of my life. I am excited to see her when she wakes up in the morning and I am excited to see her right after work. There are times that I cannot concentrate at work because I am thinking “what is Kaylee doing now?” How wonderful would that be to see her all day long? She is going to pre-school now so it wouldn’t be as often but still more than I see her now and that is all that matters. That is why I want to be a medical transcriptionist.
To me being a medical transcriptionist would be as if I were given a golden key to a wonderful life spent with my little girl and my husband. Kaylee wants a brother or sister and my husband and I want another baby also but with working full time away from home I just don’t see that happening. But I do see that happening if I can do medical transcription at home. I have researched many schools and programs that offer medical transcription training and certification and Future MT is the only online medical transcription school that I have found that offers a money back guarantee. I was also impressed with the amount of full and partial scholarships that are given out monthly. It is so hard making ends meet as it is for a lot people today that the benefit of receiving a full scholarship for education that will lead to a great life spent with your family is awesome in my eyes. It is as if Future MT’s goal is to set you down the path to succeed at a better way of life. The fact that if you do not find a job after 60 days from completing your course that you are granted a year’s access to Future MT’s employment services is really impressive. SN:0MA9N2ESY
I received my Bachelors in Business Science Business Information Systems and I feel I have not benefited from this degree. I am still paying on my school loans totaling about $16,000 right now. I cannot afford to go back to school now without financial aid. I applied numerous times for IT positions but every time they state I do not have enough work experience. If they would have offered the employment services or guarantee that you offer then maybe I wouldn’t feel that it was such a loss taking that path. I regret not going into another field of study. Right now I’m a secretary with a Bachelors Degree, paying off a loan to a field of education that I am not working in nor do I see myself ever working in. I wish I would have gone into medical transcription from the start. I think if I started down that path I would probably have my own medical transcription business by now and have the freedom to work from home and make my own schedule.
Medical Transcriptionist Career Opportunities
I like to have a career as a Medical Transcriptionist since last year because I heard news about the booming of this allied career. I think this is the best job for me because I am a single parent and have two small children. I can work at home and hopefully to receive good salary while still taking care the needs of my children. I was motivated to have this kind of job because I also have a medical background course which is Bachelor of Science in Nursing and I know it will not be very difficult for me to have the training because I am familiar already with some medical words.
It also my desire to work in a health care industry, even though this is a transcribing job, I can continue learning through hearing the medical reports and my minds will works and can apply what I learned in nursing school. Continuity of learning is very important for me. The great advantage in working as a Medical Transcriptionist is the flexibility of work and I prefer this kind of job compare to be hired as a Call Center Agent. In call center job, one need to talk, listen and encode the details of the type of industry and I have some friends who got illness due to long hours of talking, they had a problem in their voice box and besides working in a call center usually in grave yard work shifts.
Taking the above consideration, working as a Medical Transcriptionist is more easy job as the MT just listen to the voice recorded by the physician or other health practitioner and once I gain enough experience or recorded medical cases, it will be more easy because the medical reports are somewhat almost the same in terms of the kind of disease and the treatments done, and the difference will only be the personal history and diagnosis of the patient. I am interested to have formal training because it will help me familiarize with the different English accents of the physician and other health care practitioner. I can all be well familiarizing with additional medical terms that might have not been taken up at school and most especially, I like to know how this system works. SN:0MA9N2ESY
In getting the right training for medical transcription jobs, I know the training school will help me to pursue my goal to do medical transcription at home, they can assess if I am doing well with my MT training and they can refer a company after my training. I have a goal that after 5 years, I am already an experienced MT and have the advantage of getting more Transcription order from hospital or clinics; I will do that for the next 10 more years because I have to work at home for my kids. When my kids are grown up, my goal is to have my own MT business wherein I can also help other people to have a rewarding career most especially those single parents like me. Today’s new technology such as internet is really a great help.
I WHY I WANT TO BECOME A MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTIONIST
As with most young people I held vague dreams for the future. Having graduated as a linguist, speaking 5 languages, one of mine were becoming a professional translator at the UN in New York, however, with my native language being Danish, there were obviously limited need for my services in that august body – what other options were open to me? While weighing these options, I was attending Secretarial Academy and I was also working for one of the major multinational corporations’ Copenhagen headquarters and was making remarkable progress up the career ladder. I found myself trapped in the usual corporate infighting and was forced to do some serious soul-searching, with respect to what to do with my life?
I decided to enroll in a course to become a Medical Secretary and during the year that followed struggled through anatomy, biology, Latin and a number of other subjects, which did not initially spark any deep interest in me, but being rather intelligent and with aptitude for learning, it all settled in and to this day is still with me. I recently went through some material from an online Medical Transcription course – just scanned through the anatomy lessons and found that there was nothing new there, excepting one system of the human body, which I had to look up. I have been thinking about adding a Medical Transcriptionist course to my education for several years now – I have come full circle, one could say, but for various reasons I never seriously pursued it. One of those reasons being lack of funds others being family considerations.
Some of the considerations I have had, while weighing the possibility of entering the MT industry, have been, among others, the possibility of working medical transcription jobs at home. Medical transcription at home would create an environment that is undisturbed and in peace and quiet. There is no doubt that you can be much more productive under those circumstances and deliver a flawless product in less time than if you were sitting in a busy office with constant activity around you. From the in-depth research I have done on the MT industry, it also appears that contrary to most other industries or fields, this is a growth area, based on the very simple fact that the so-called baby boomers will increasingly have to avail themselves of medical services. This will necessitate an increase in the need for professionals within every single field of Medicine. With my background as an Executive Assistant, Executive Secretary and Administrative Assistant I have obviously accumulated the practical and technical skills, which are the foundation for being an effective Medical Transcriptionist, add to that the course I already took as a Medical Secretary and Transcriptionist is the next logical step. But for me the most important advantage is that being slightly disabled, I don’t have to travel and can work at home.
This only requires a fairly short and straight forward commentary. I have performed intense research online into all the available courses, I could find. Future MT’s course outline appears to be superior to any other institutions’, which I was able to locate, while also inspiring a sense of quality. I was also impressed by the services offered upon completion of the course. However much I would like to be able to elaborate on the reasons why, I am interested in training with Future MT, I have no foundation to build on, because I have never before taken an online course in anything. This will be my first experience, but from what I have been able to glean from the web site – I am pretty sure it will be a very gratifying one. SN:0MA9N2ESY
My career goals are rather realistic, because they are based upon many years experience in the corporate world. By taking advantage of your organization’s expertise and experience, I am hoping to learn how to introduce my services to potential clients upon completion of the course and eventual certification. I am not sure exactly what to expect, but I have the benefit of living in a large city with several hospitals, medical centers and numerous medical doctors in private practice. I am hoping to have solicited and obtained accounts enough at the end of year one to keep me busy approximately six to seven hours a day. Beyond that is anybody’s guess. If I was younger, I might have indulged in dreams and plans of hiring qualified Transcriptionists and expand my services into a small, independent business, However, as it stands right now, I really only envision and hope for building up a client base to keep me busy, doing something I really love to do.
I Love To Work From Home
I would like to become a medical transcriptionist because I love to work from home and I did research on the internet about the pay and it is on average 40,000 dollars a year. I also want to become a medical transcriptionist because I can learn more about a different area in the medical field. See, I went to Penn Foster and received my diploma in dental assisting and now I am familiar with medical terminology and would like to make use of that knowledge in medical transcription. What drove me to choose medical transcription was the severe poverty that I am currently in not able to pay bills and not being where I think I should be. I have bi-polar disorder so I chose medical transcription because I can do my work at home and not around people because I find that it’s difficult because I have social anxiety face-to-face but not on the phone or over the internet. Also I never really had anyone in my family to help me in any way, I always had to do things on my own I was always very independent and when I said something I usually always did it when it came to schooling. Knowing what I know now I can tell you that doing things on my own made me stronger and made me push myself that much harder to be successful because I really never had any help when I was falling. My family was never there for me so it made me look at what my abilities were and then I decided to use the gifts that god blessed me with and then begin to start looking on the internet to find something that fit my personality like a online typing job. SN:0MA9N2ESY
I am a good teacher and I plan to use my talents to help people become medical transcriptionists for free because I know how it feels to be in poverty and I wouldn’t want a person in poverty to have to suffer most of their life because they cannot afford an education to help themselves. One thing that all this taught me was to have compassion for others. Some advantages of working in the medical transcription industry are good pay, ability to work independently, prestige, and the ability to learn medical terminology and know what it means. Working from home means that I can wear whatever I want save money on food everyday at lunch hour, save money and time not having to commute every day, and the ability to have the freedom to do what you want. I am interested in training with Future MT because I can receive a very good education through them and learn at my own pace. I can graduate in 3-6 months. I am also interested in training with Future MT because all of the classes are online. When it comes to me figuring out what my education and career goals I would have to say first I would finish my education through Future MT and then I would find a medical transcription at home job then I would work for about 1 year and then go back to school to receive an associate’s degree in medical transcription. And lastly I would start going to the library and ordering books on how to start your own business in medical transcription.
My Decision for Medical Transcribing
I have had an interest in work from home jobs starting my own business for quite a few years now. I just haven’t been sure what my niche would be. I have been thinking about something in the medical field after my mother passed away with Cancer 12 years ago. I was very involved in her care, and later in my father’s care (who I lost about a year ago). The doctor’s were always surprised that I not only had so much knowledge about their conditions, but also an understanding of what was going on with them. After going through the loss of both of my parents and watching them suffer I have wanted to do something to help others, somehow make a difference. Especially, for those who don’t have family. I have thought about volunteering in the hospitals or nursing homes and helping others stay on top of was available to them for to help make life a little easier or brighter in a not so bright situation. I went on to get married and now have two beautiful children. I am an at-home mom and my husband has just recently been laid-off, due to the struggling economy. I have sacrificed to be able to be an at-home mom that I would change for anything but would also like to feel as though I am contributing and have a career, have something for “me”. SN:0MA9N2ESY
If there is one industry that remains strong it’s the medical industry. I am sure that it has its back falls as well. I don’t think anyone is immune to it, but caring for people sure has to be there. This brings me to my decision for medical transcription at home. It is something that I can train at my own pace, since we never know what life has in store for us. But most importantly, I will be doing something to help contribute financial to my family, but still be here for my girls as they get older. Also get involved in the medical industry that I have had an interest in for so long. I think that it will help me develop an even more positive attitude during my training. I would like to get an MT education that will give me the career I can be satisfied with not only financial but enjoying what I do every day, and become an experienced in MT transcriptionist. I see myself advancing and making a nice “nest egg” for my future, and doing all this in the comfort of my own home, and maybe eventually branching out with it.
The Field of Medical Transcription
The field of medical transcription has been one in which I have enjoyed success and profit. Three years of my life were dedicated to being a medical transcriptionist from 1995 to 1998. I am a woman who has performed in varying capacities of a wide variety of professional arenas, most recently, commercial truck driving. I want to re-enter the field of transcription once again and enjoy the office setting, educational environment, and job security provided by this work. Because it has been a few years since I was a medical transcriptionist, I desire to refresh my skills and update my credentials. For this reason, I feel it prudent to take your highly accommodating medical transcription course. I left the field of transcription due to the lack of integrity and inadequacies of staff members I trusted at a hospital where I worked and achieved the highest pay rate available in that position, proving my competency. I had gone through a difficult divorce at that time; and, I did not have the tenacity to fight for what was inappropriately taken from me. Although I received unemployment compensation due to the false charges against me; I was unable to overcome the damage to my professional reputation. I decided to try something completely new; and, I became a commercial truck driver. I made a lot of money and saw a lot of country. I was able to support myself and my 13-yr-old son very well until 2008, when the economy took a nose dive and freight became extremely sparse, eliminating most truck driving jobs of any consequence. So, because I love language, writing, and yes transcription; I am going to enter that field of work again, God and the Angels and financial aid willing!
The main reason I want to re-enter the field of transcription is described above in part; but, I want to have the comfort of work at home medical transcription jobs. Driving trucks is very hard work due to the long hours required (70/wk). I want to work about eight hours a day and preferably from a home office. I have a perfect room in mind for this. I lost my home of eight and one half years to foreclosure, which hit my son and me extremely hard. That was in 2007; and I found a fairly cheap apartment to rent for my friend and me. My friend used to be my dispatcher at one of my trucking jobs, and she lost her job too. I offered her a room in my three bedroom house that I lost, and she is living with me now in my two bedrooms, 700 sq. ft. apartment. She has not had income for the whole time I have let her stay with me. It has been really challenging as she has been ill since her job loss.
My son lives with roommates who are in his current band. He was employed as a land surveyor since he was in eighth grade, where he was recommended for employment by his principal and instructors as a person of moral character and determination. The divorce was devastating to him; and he found new hope at a public charter school in Arizona. His favorite teacher was named Mr. Jolly. Isn’t that incredible? After all the difficulty my son endured from bullying at school to the breakup of his parents; now he found support and guidance from educators who became great friends and mentors. Wes worked very successfully as an accomplished land surveyor until he was 20-yrs-old. The economy took his job. He now works at a Sonic drive thru restaurant; because “it beats staying home and being bored.” He is also an accomplished musician, self-taught and also talent-inherited from his father, who died shortly after he moved out here from Michigan to be near him. I have a large responsibility to show my son that, never giving up, is the road to success and fulfillment. It is not easy being that person. Working in the medical field again will ensure that I will have work, I feel, as I am aware of the fact that America is populated by the aging. Those citizens will need medical care, resulting in more reports to transcribe than ever before.
From what I have read of the Future MT course, there seems to be an emphasis on the “nuts and bolts” of the preparation for the work of transcribing medical reports. As one of the graduates states in her quote, “I think with your books and a good dictionary you can get just as good a grasp for much less (money). I started out just wanting to refresh my skills and update my credentials. I got involved in a long process at another university for much more than the basics, which is satisfying work; but, I need to get to work as soon as possible. I still have an interest in the degree study, but I want to shorten the time it will take to get to work, so I am interested in your course. SN:0MA9N2ESY
I am entertaining the idea of having my own transcription business. I have had my own businesses in the past, one in products and services, the other in house painting when I was much, much younger. I found being a business owner to be very edifying and rewarding. I am old enough now to be thinking of retirement within eight to ten years. I feel becoming a transcriptionist again will be the perfect segue into being a business owner in the same field and providing for others who want to find the rewards of medical transcription at home.
Why I want to be an MT
I am a single mother with a 5 year old daughter that is going to be starting Kindergarten this fall. I am currently working a 2nd shift job for $10 an hour and I only have one day off a week, so I don’t get to see her very much. She spends a lot of time at a babysitters or with my parents that live two hours away. I want to become a medical transcriptionist because it will allow me to be a stay at home mother and still have the income to take care of my child. It will give me the freedom to be home with her, go to her school events and be more involved in her life. It will give us the time together that we don’t get now and I won’t have to depend on other people so much. We will be able to take trips and not have to worry about having enough money or time to go. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice, however I have not worked in that field since I had my daughter. I decided on a career change after I had her and I have been doing customer service/sales jobs. The hours are terrible and I am making enough just to pay the bills. I want to start a new career in the medical transcription at home because it is an amazing field to get into. I have a couple of family members that are RN’s and they keep telling me to get into the medical field. If I could go back to when I started college I would have gone into the medical field for sure. It is a field that will always be in need. Working as a medical transcriptionist will give me knowledge about things I never knew about. SN:0MA9N2ESY
I was a CNA for a little while after college and I learned a lot of medical terms and what certain injuries look like, how to use certain tools, measure in cc’s, etc. I really enjoyed being a CNA but the work took a toll on my shoulders so I had to quit. Doing this would, in a way, would bring me back to that, learning new terms and feeling intelligent about what I was doing. It will give me the sense of helping people again but in a different way. Having a career as a medical transcriptionist would make me feel good about myself and I wouldn’t be ashamed to tell people what I do for a living. It would teach me new things, challenge me, educate me on medical terms, parts of the body I don’t know and maybe even make me go on to something more. It would also give me the ability to educate my daughter. Taking this course would not only give me a new career but it opens up my education too. At first I would work for a company but I have always wanted to open up my own business so maybe down the road this would be what I can do. Open up a business for medical transcriptionists. I would love to be my own boss and have my own hours so I can have a family life and not be punching a clock all the time. Being a work from home medical transcriptionist would be the best thing I ever did, expect for my daughter, of course. It will open the doors for so many things for me and for my family. Not only would it make me feel good about myself for succeeding in something new it would also show my daughter that you can change your life at any point in your life if you really want to.
Being a Medical Transcriptionist is a Career
Being a Medical Transcriptionist is a hoped for career. There are advantages to being an MT or any home typist jobs; flexibility, extra income, and family time, just to name a few. The medical field is constantly growing. Since the field is continually growing, there are always new job/career opportunities becoming available. Having a career as an MT is a step in the right direction. Becoming an MT would be a good move for me. I love to type and am familiar with medical terminology. The flexible nature of this career is extremely ideal. Since I am already in the medical field in my current job, I feel I would excel in this program. I have wanted to begin training for medical transcription for a long time now.
Recently my husband significantly injured his dominant hand at work causing him to be partially disabled. His job is hands on, so the work is not always easy for him, and he is limited in what he can do. Since the job market is not at its best, he is compelled to stay at his job while having restrictions. He doesn’t do office work, and since I do and like being in front of a computer, this is a career fit for me. There are several advantages of working in the MT field. Flexibility is a major advantage. It gives you the opportunity to associate with your family more and continue to build those relationships. Also, if you already have a job, you can utilize medical transcription at home as a supplement to an insufficient income. An advantage for me would be that I am already familiar with the medical field and medical terminology. SN:0MA9N2ESY
In the hard economic times we are in, I am forced to search for further training for as little money as possible. If I can enhance my education without spending a lot of money, I would be thrilled. Given the fact that times are hard, I would still like to have a family. Having a career like MT would help start my future with my husband. Being an MT would give me the flexibility and extra income to fulfill those dreams. Medical transcription offers some educational and career advantages. Instead of having just a “job,” completing an MT program gives me the opportunity to have a Career. By starting now, I can be successful and on my way to achieving my goals for the future. Having this training will help further my knowledge in the medical field and can be useful all over. In my opinion, medical transcription seems to be perfect because it offers flexibility to continue with your normal life and keep building your familial relationships. It is also a jump start into a new future..
